“The Rhythm of Life is a powerful beat…”
”…puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet”. Not my words; they are from the musical “Sweet Charity”. I feel this is a fitting reminder for where we are at the moment.
For me, I am delighted to be organising public workshops again, and I’m also itching to hit the road once more.
As a part of getting back into the swing of things, I have a brand new website: heleneveringham.com. I am delighted with it. Lots of lovely work from my very talented designer Jess and lots of writing from me.
I believe we are at a point where we need to feel that uplifting Rhythm of Life again. I hesitate to say getting ‘back to normal’ because I don’t think that exists. Maybe this is our ‘new’ normal, whatever that might be.
The last two years have been anything but ideal, and there are many people still dealing with the ravages of ongoing drought, the Black Summer bushfires of 2019-20, and the recent devastating flooding rains, let alone the Covid restrictions that have been ruling our lives.
We are an amazing country of incredible people. The Mud Army swings into action once more, the Drought Angels’ work is ongoing out west; Baked Relief get stuck into the caring cooking and cards; Givit connects people with needed goods; BlazeAid rebuilds fences and structures on properties; and there are many, many other volunteer groups out there helping those who are doing it tough.
There is nothing quite like helping others to help ourselves. It is a wonderful way to experience an instant ‘feel-good’, lifting our own spirits in a way that nothing else can – and sometimes putting our own fears and worries into a healthier perspective.
What else can we do to put that buzz back into life? Certainly, helping other people is a great beginning. Here are some other thoughts:
- If you have some doubts, fears, problems, talk about them to someone with an empathetic ear. Dumping is good!
- Recognise that those feelings are legitimate and know that they too will pass.
- Do something creative, something physical to get your mind on another track.
- Keep energised – go for a walk or a run, weed the garden.
- Make sure you’re getting enough rest. Good sleep is essential.
- Sitting in nature is therapeutic. Take some time out to just ‘be’.
- Remind yourself of what is going well in your life, right now.
- Count your blessings – there are always more than you imagine.
We seem to have been cocooned for so long. Now that restrictions have eased and we are able to move around more, maybe it is time to get back to feeling the ‘tingle in your fingers and the tingle in your feet’. Enjoy that Rhythm of Life, it is indeed, a powerful beat.
